Wenzhou Boluotu Cloud Technology Co., Ltd. (温州菠萝兔云科技有限责任公司) ("we" or "us") operates the apps "Yutou Novels" (芋头小说) and "Yutou Writer" (芋头作家助手) and their websites (together, the "Service"), and is the personal information handler of the Service. Our affiliate may, entrusted by us, provide parts of the Service or handle matters related to it; see item (1) of Part 4. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, share and protect your personal information, and the rights you have.
Please read this policy carefully, especially the parts in bold. By choosing to agree to this policy, you confirm that you have read it and agree that we process your personal information as described here. This policy describes, feature by feature, the categories of personal information, what they include and what they are used for; the third-party SDKs and partners that receive personal information are listed one by one in "Appendix: Third-party SDKs and partners" at the end of this policy (the "Appendix").
Key points
- You can browse the store and read free works and preview chapters without registering. Registering an account requires a mobile phone number or an email address (as offered on the registration page).
- We process only the personal information that a feature needs. We do not sell your personal information or send you marketing text messages, and we do not let third parties show you personalized ads unless you allow Yutou Novels to track you in the iOS system prompt. You can turn off personal recommendations at any time (see item (7) of Part 2).
- The Yutou Novels apps show third-party ads in works offered as "free with ads", and chapters of such works after the preview chapters can only be read once you agree to this policy. Ads cannot be turned off on their own; you can watch rewarded videos to go without ads for a while. Once you agree to this policy, we start a third-party advertising SDK when ads need to be shown; it collects your device identifiers, IP address and other information and sends them to its provider outside the People's Republic of China. See item (2) of Part 4.
- The Yutou Novels apps may also show, in the same places, ads we publish ourselves or on behalf of advertisers ("house ads"). House ads do not use a third-party advertising SDK and are placed only by the work you are reading and its category, the ad unit and the operating system you use, not targeted by your personal characteristics. See item (6) of Part 2.
- Some works have short dramas. Anyone can watch episode 1 of each for free; later episodes are unlocked one at a time: after you sign in, by watching a rewarded video, with Yutou coins or with Yutou membership, the unlocks being kept on your account; in the iOS app without signing in, also with the Yutou coins in the guest wallet. See item (12) of Part 2.
- Ad measurement is optional: only after you give separate consent do we tell the third-party ad platform on which we placed an ad about your registration, sign-up and similar results after you came to the Service through that ad. Where an app offers this feature (currently only the Yutou Novels iOS app), the ad measurement SDK that measures the app installs and usage our ads bring also collects information on your device only after your separate consent. You can turn it off at any time; see item (11) of Part 2.
- When you buy Yutou membership or Yutou coins, the payment is processed by a payment institution such as Alipay or by the app store you use; we keep the order and transaction records and never receive your bank card number or payment password. See item (10) of Part 2.
- Direct messages and book groups are optional; before you first use them you read and agree to the Messages and Book Groups Notice. Direct messages can be seen only by you and the other person, and book group messages only by the group's members; see item (3) of Part 2.
- Local books you import stay only on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
- Your personal information is stored on servers in mainland China, with the exceptions in Part 5.
- You can delete your account in the app. After you submit the request there is a 15-day cooling-off period; within 3 working days after it ends we delete your account and personal information. See Part 9.
1. Scope
This policy applies to Yutou Novels and Yutou Writer (including the versions offered through our website and through app stores) and their websites. Not every client has the same features; where this policy says that some processing happens only in some clients, that statement applies. Services provided separately by third parties, such as the app store you use, Alipay, and the speech engine built into your device or browser, are covered by their providers' privacy policies. Through the "Yutou Ad Network" (芋头广告联盟) we also provide ads to other apps that integrate the Yutou Ad Network SDK (see item (14) of Part 2): how the SDK processes the personal information of users in those apps is governed by the Yutou Ad Network SDK Personal Information Rules, and how those apps themselves process personal information is governed by their providers' privacy policies.
2. Personal information we collect and why
We follow the principles of lawfulness, legitimacy, necessity and good faith, and process only the personal information needed for the features below; if you do not use a feature, the corresponding information is not generated. We re-encode or process every avatar, cover and illustration of a work, every picture and sticker in comments and moments, and every picture in promotional materials that you upload, removing metadata such as the time and place a photo was taken.
(1) Registration and sign-in
- Account information: your mobile phone number or email address, password, nickname and avatar (an avatar is optional), and when you registered, which app you registered with, your account roles and the service region recorded from your phone number's country code, used to register, sign in, reset your password, keep your account secure and verify your real identity. We never store your password itself, only a salted hash of it. Your nickname and avatar identify your account in the Service and are shown publicly with the content you publish; once you become an author, your nickname is also the pen name shown on your works. You can also write a bio (it is optional), which is shown with your nickname and avatar on your profile, publicly to all users.
- Verification codes: we send verification codes by text message or email to confirm that the phone number or email is used by you (text message codes currently support mainland China numbers only), and record the number or email that received a code, its purpose and the number of attempts, to prevent abuse.
- Sign-in credential: after you sign in, we give your device a random sign-in credential and the server stores only its hash. It is valid for 7 days by default and stops working when you sign out, reset your password or request account deletion.
- Consent records: the versions of the User Agreement and Privacy Policy you agreed to and when, including the records made when you register, when you become an author and when you agree again after an update.
If you do not provide this information you cannot register or sign in, but you can still browse the store and read free works and preview chapters.
(2) Reading and library
When you are signed in, to sync data between your devices and provide the reading service, we keep your reading records on our servers. They currently include: the works in your library, when you added them and the latest chapter you have seen of each; your reading progress in each book (chapter, paragraph and position); your reading and appearance settings (for example theme, accent color and font size); your reading history (up to the 100 most recent books, which you can delete); when you first read each chapter and which works you read on each day; and your reading entitlements, that is, the chapters and works you bought and the source and period of your membership. These records are used to sync, tell you about updates of works, determine which chapters you can read and whether ads are shown, confirm that you have read a work (for example before you rate it), and for the statistics described in item (6).
- Paid chapter subscription records: the first time you read or listen to a paid chapter through a purchase, we record the work, the chapter, the entitlement used and the time, to count subscriptions, give authors statistics about their works and calculate author benefits. Authors only see the number of subscriptions, not who subscribed.
- AI book search: when you use AI book search in Yutou Novels, we send the search terms you type to our servers and pass them to the AI model of a service provider we entrust to understand what kind of work you are looking for (see item (1) of Part 4), and return the results. They are sent without your account, reader identifier or other identity information; search terms that look like they contain a phone number, an email address or a web address are not passed to the provider and are not stored. Search terms are used only to return results and to count popular searches per term; we keep them per term, not linked to your account or reader identifier (see Part 6); to prevent abuse, the server temporarily uses your IP address in memory to limit how often requests are made (until the end of the day at most), without writing it to the database. Whether to use it is your choice: before your first use we tell you and ask for your consent, and you can turn it off at any time (in Yutou Novels under "Settings" in "Me", on the website on the search results page); if you do not use it, none of this processing takes place.
When you are not signed in, your reading progress, reading history, and reading and appearance settings stay only on your device. If you buy Yutou coins in the iOS app without signing in, the coins and the chapters, works and short drama episodes bought with them are kept in a guest wallet we set up for this device (see "Guest wallet" in item (10)), while your reading progress, reading history, and reading and appearance settings still stay only on your device. The search terms you type in the store first filter the list by title and author on your device; they are sent to us only when you use AI book search (see "AI book search" in this item). Local books you import (for example TXT and EPUB files) and their reading progress stay only on your device or in your browser, are never uploaded to our servers and are not counted in any statistics.
(3) Comments, Book Finder and interaction
- Content you publish: reviews, paragraph comments and replies, Book Finder (书荒广场) posts and replies, moments and their replies, and the pictures and stickers in them, when they were published and which works and chapters they relate to. This content is public to all users together with your nickname and avatar; please do not reveal your own or anyone else's personal information in it. Under section 6 of the User Agreement, this content may be translated into other languages (including with AI technology), and the translations are also shown together with your nickname and avatar. After you delete your own content it is no longer shown; if others have replied to it, its position shows that it was deleted. Other users can add pictures you publish to their own stickers, and if you later delete the content or your account, the stickers they have already added are not affected; if a picture contains your personal information or infringes your rights, you can report it, and once we verify this we block the picture so that it is no longer shown anywhere it is used.
- Stickers: the pictures you add to "My stickers" (uploaded from your photos or files, or added from pictures you see in comments and moments), and when you added and last used them, so that you can choose them when you publish content. Only you can see and use your stickers; a sticker becomes public with the comment or moment you publish it in. You can delete stickers at any time.
- Mentioning others: when you mention another user with "@" in a review, paragraph comment, reply, moment or moment reply, we record who was mentioned and where in the text, to link the mention to their profile and send them a reminder (see "In-app messages" in this item). The nickname you type when choosing whom to mention is sent to us and used only to find matching users.
- Interaction records: your likes, ratings, update requests (催更) and blocks of other users, used to show works' ratings and popularity, remind authors to update, and filter content and recommendations as you choose. Ratings are shown only in aggregate, once 10 readers have rated a work, and for update requests only the number of readers and requests is shown; blocking only affects what you see, and the other user is not notified.
- Following: the users you follow (including authors), when you followed them and whether you receive reminders of their moments, used to list these users and authors' works on pages such as "Following" and "Followed authors", show their moments in "Moments", and send you reminders when they publish new works or moments. The number of people each account follows and of its followers is shown publicly; other users (including the users followed) only see these numbers, never who follows whom; authors can also see how many new followers they get each day. Only you can see which users you follow. One exception: once you agree to the Messages and Book Groups Notice, users you follow who also follow you can message you without the limit of one message before you reply, so a user you follow may be able to tell from this that you follow them too (see "Messages and book groups" in this item).
- Messages and book groups: the content of the direct and group messages you send (including text, emoji and pictures) and when they are sent, unsent and read; your direct conversations and the book groups you have joined, your role in them, your requests to join and their notes; and your settings for messages and book groups. They are used to deliver and show messages to the members of a conversation, keep the chat history, count unread messages, handle reports and disputes, guard against harassment and spam, and cooperate with competent authorities as the law requires. Direct messages can be seen only by you and the other person, and book group messages only by the group's members; a book group's name, introduction and number of members are shown publicly. Messages are checked automatically before they are sent: we use keywords and rules to identify illegal content and attempts to draw users elsewhere, and may refuse to send a message or mark it. Our staff look at messages only when handling reports, patrolling book groups or as the law requires. Messages and book groups are optional; their rules are in the Messages and Book Groups Notice, which you read and agree to before you first use them.
- Supporting authors: in the Yutou Novels apps you can choose on a work's pages to watch a rewarded video to cheer for that work (为爱发电, offered for some works only). To confirm you watched it to the end, before it plays we create a one-time random token and give it to the third-party advertising SDK, and after you finish the provider's servers send it back to us with the reward result (see item (2) of Part 4); the token does not contain, and cannot be used to work out, your phone number, email or account number. We record how many times and when you cheered, the works you supported, the fan points you earned and your choice of whether your nickname appears in fan rankings, to settle authors' earnings, show fan rankings and prevent fraud. A work's fan ranking shows all users (including visitors to the websites) your nickname, avatar and fan points for that work; the work's author can also see how many times you cheered for it and the date you last did. In the cheering panel you can choose not to show your nickname in fan rankings; you are then shown as "Anonymous reader", without an avatar, in the fan rankings of all works. Fan rankings are only about cheering and never show who follows whom. If we later offer other ways to support authors, such as tipping, we likewise record your support (for example the number of Yutou coins tipped) and calculate fan points.
- In-app messages: in "Messages" we send you notices about your account (including review results, signing, listing and delisting of works, report handling, replies to your comments, posts and moments, someone mentioning you in their content, users you follow publishing new works or moments, and author benefit results) and platform notices, and keep the messages and whether you have read them. In the reminder settings you can turn off moment reminders or the moment reminders of a particular user, and choose whether to receive reminders when anyone mentions you, only when users you follow mention you, or never. To send platform notices only to the users concerned, we may choose recipients by account role, signing status, author level, author benefits, the status of the works you publish (for example whether they have a cover or are listed), membership and purchases, works in the library, recent reading, registration date and the app used to register. When we later offer system notifications, we may remind you of these messages through your phone's notification area or similar ways; system notifications appear only after you allow them on your device, and you can turn them off in the system settings at any time.
- Reports, feedback and customer service: what you report, the reason, your description and a snapshot of the reported content at the time of the report, and the content, attachments and contact details you send us through the customer service email, in-app feedback or online customer service (in-app feedback and online customer service may include your account number, app version, device model and OS version, to locate problems), used to handle reports, reply to you and handle your requests.
If your content, nickname or avatar is reported, the snapshot taken at the time of the report (including the reported avatar image) is kept as a platform governance record. Even after you delete the content, change your nickname, change your avatar or delete your account, it is kept for the period in Part 6 and used only to handle reports, review appeals and deal with disputes. The same applies when your bio or pictures you publish are reported. Our staff review content and handle reports according to their permissions, and the management system shows phone numbers and emails only partly.
If your direct or group message is reported, the snapshot taken at the time of the report includes the reported message and some earlier messages between the reporter and you, and is likewise kept as a platform governance record for the period in Part 6.
We may combine automated technology (including AI technology) with human review to check the content, nicknames, avatars, bios, book group details and works you publish (including the pictures in them), and check in the same way the reported content and the reporter's description when handling reports, to identify information that breaks laws or rules; content that an automated review finds may contain seriously illegal or harmful information may be visible only to you until a human has checked it; where the result of an automated review has a significant effect on you (for example hiding content or restricting your account), you can ask for a human review as described in Part 12; and if your report is closed because an automated review found nothing against the rules, you can report again within a certain period and we will arrange a human review. This paragraph also applies to the direct and group messages you send.
(4) Writing and submissions (Yutou Writer)
- Works and writing information: book details (such as title, synopsis, tags, cover and category), chapter text, drafts and their earlier versions as well as writing materials such as outlines, characters and settings, submitted manuscripts, images and review comments. Drafts and writing materials are saved on your device first and then synced to our servers.
- Signing information: the manuscript snapshot, intended contract and message to the editor you submit when making an internal submission or applying to sign, the editor's handling notes, the reason you give when you decline to sign for now, and, for online signing, the full text of the contract and its SHA-256 hash, the signing time and the account; for signing with a written contract offline, also the real name, ID document number, phone number, email and postal address stated in the contract; for signing with an electronic signature, also the real name and full ID document number stated in the contract (the full text of the contract, which states the full number, is stored encrypted), the contract number and signing records at the e-signature service, and the signed electronic contract file (see "Electronic signing" in this item).
- Electronic signing: when you sign a work's signing contract with an electronic signature in Yutou Writer, we use the real name, ID document number and mobile number reserved with the bank that passed your payee information check (and the bank card number when your identity is verified through the bank card) to confirm that the signer is you, and process the photos of the front and back of your identity document that you upload; when you apply for the digital certificate and when you sign, the e-signature service may verify you by face recognition on its own pages, and it collects the face images, which we neither receive nor keep; electronic signing is only for authors who have completed the payee information check and are aged 18 or over. This information is provided to the e-signature service and the electronic certification service it works with, to verify your identity, issue a digital certificate and sign and preserve the electronic contract; see item (3) of Part 4. ID document numbers, bank card numbers, identity document photos and facial information are sensitive personal information: before you first sign electronically, we tell you how they are processed in the Separate Notice on Personal Information for Electronic Signing, and obtain your separate consent. In signing contracts signed with an electronic signature, Party A is our affiliate. If you do not sign electronically, none of this information arises.
- Work statistics: you can see statistics for your works such as impressions, views, reads, favorites, ratings, traffic sources, estimated ad revenue and subscriptions. These are totals only and do not identify individual readers. The fan rankings of works are described under "Supporting authors" in item (3).
- Promotional materials: the promotional materials you submit for your works in Yutou Writer (such as videos, images, audio and text, and personal information you put in them such as your voice or pen name), the works they are for, the pitch and declarations you fill in, the records of submission, review and placement, the versions of the Promotional Material Rules and of the separate consent to provision abroad that you agreed to and when, and figures such as the impressions, clicks and click-through rate of the promotion of the materials and works outside the Service, used to review the materials, place ads, measure the results of the promotion and give you promotion data. Promotion data are totals only and do not identify viewers. When ads are placed, the materials and the title, synopsis, cover and link of the work they are for are provided to ad platforms and their video platforms outside the People's Republic of China, and we obtain your separate consent before you submit them; see item (3) of Part 4 and Part 5. Whether to submit materials is your choice; if you submit none, none of this information is generated.
- AI writing assistance: when you use AI assistance features in Yutou Writer (such as AI proofreading and AI materials organizing), we pass the chapter text (without pictures) and writing materials needed for that feature to the AI model of a service provider we entrust (see item (1) of Part 4), and return the results, such as suggested corrections and suggested materials, to you; you decide whether to accept them. The text checked by AI proofreading and its suggestions are used only for that check, and we do not keep them; results other assistance features need to keep (such as suggestions not yet handled and the points extracted from chapters) are kept under your account and used only for that feature. Using them is your choice: before your first use we tell you and ask for your consent; if you do not use them, no such processing takes place.
- Author benefits: to calculate the full-attendance bonus, author levels and other benefits, we count the chapters and characters each of your works updates every day, and keep your leave days, the settlement and payment records of benefits, bonus points with their notes and the proof you submit (used only to review bonus points); the conditions for taking part use only totals at the work level, such as total characters, estimated ad revenue and subscriptions.
- Royalty settlement and withdrawals: the monthly settlement statements of signed works (such as each work's revenue, revenue share, deductions and corrections), the royalties and rewards credited to your withdrawable balance and the changes to that balance, your withdrawal requests with their handling and payment records (amount, time, status and payment reference number), and the calculation and withholding records of individual income tax, used to settle and pay the money, reconcile accounts, handle disputes and file taxes according to law. You can see your own statements, balance, withdrawals and the tax withheld in Yutou Writer.
This information is used to keep and sync your works, to review (including checking whether a work has already been published online), publish, sign and show them in the store, and to help readers find them (including tags for search and recommendations that we compile from a work's title, synopsis, tags and some of its chapters). Once a work is published, its content, details and pen name are public to all users; under section 6 of the User Agreement, the signing contract and the Promotional Material Rules you agree to when submitting promotional materials, we may promote your works in and outside the Service (including through ads placed on third-party ad platforms), and translate them into other languages (including with AI technology) and show the translations. Only book content and book details are used for translation, not account information such as your phone number or email.
To receive royalty shares, the full-attendance bonus or other payments, you provide your real name, ID document number, a receiving account in your own name (such as a bank card number) and the mobile number reserved with the bank for it, used to verify your identity, pay the money, withhold individual income tax according to law and report to the tax authorities. To confirm that the receiving account is yours, we check through an identity verification service whether this information matches (see item (1) of Part 4), and keep the verification result. If you choose to receive payments with Alipay, you also need to authorize this in Alipay, and Alipay then gives us your Alipay user identifier as the receiving account, with the nickname, avatar and, where you authorize it, the mobile number linked to that account, which help recognize it (of the mobile number we keep only a masked form); when you link the account, we may give Alipay your name and ID document number to check that the account is verified under your own identity, and Alipay tells us only whether they match; when paying, Alipay checks whether the payee's name matches the real-name information of that account. ID document numbers and receiving accounts are sensitive personal information and are necessary to receive these payments; if they are leaked or used unlawfully, your personal and property safety may be harmed. Before you submit them we tell you separately the purpose, why it is necessary and the effect on you (see the Separate Notice on Payee Information on the page where you submit payee information), and obtain your separate consent; signed authors provide them and give separate consent in their signing contract, or provide them in the way above before the first payment. If you do not provide them, the only consequence is that you cannot receive these payments. This information is used only for these purposes and only our staff responsible for signing, settlement and finance can see it; staff at the affiliate we entrust with settlement (see item (1) of Part 4) can see only the part of it needed for settlement (see the Appendix); when paying, your name and receiving account are given to the bank or payment institution that makes the transfer, and we may also entrust our affiliate or a settlement service provider with settlement, payment, issuing or obtaining invoices and tax filing, whose names and contact details will be stated in the separate notice and listed in the Appendix.
(5) Listening
The listening feature plays audio we generate in advance with AI speech synthesis; during playback your device requests the audio from us. We currently collect no personal information specifically for listening; listening to paid chapters and finishing chapters are recorded as described in items (2) and (6), and the voice, speed and other settings stay only on your device. If you choose one of the "Device voices", the chapter text is read aloud by the speech engine built into your device or browser, and voices that need a network connection may be processed by the engine's provider.
(6) Statistics and security
To count work statistics and ad revenue, calculate author benefits, understand how features are used and keep the Service secure, we process the following device and network information, statistical records and logs:
- Reading statistics: when you open a work and read chapters (including whether you reached the end of a chapter), and how you reached a work (for example Home, recommendations, Search, Rankings, Library, Messages or a promotion link outside the Service), recorded per day to calculate views, readers, completion rates, traffic sources and similar data.
- Impressions: Yutou Novels (including the website) tells us which works were shown to you in lists such as the store's and the website's recommendation places, rankings, categories and search results, together with where they were shown. We add up impressions only per work, day and place, to calculate click rates, improve recommendations, prevent fraud and give authors their works' statistics, and do not keep who saw which works; to avoid counting repeats and to prevent fraud, the server temporarily (until the end of the day at most) uses the reader identifier described below, or a keyed hash of your IP address and client type, in memory, without writing them to the database.
- Viewing statistics: when you watch short dramas (for example when you start playing, how long you watch and whether you finish an episode) and how you reached a short drama, recorded per day to calculate plays, completion rates, traffic sources and similar data for short dramas.
- Ad revenue statistics: for the banner ads and interstitial ads between chapters shown while you read a work, and the rewarded video ads you choose to watch (and other ad formats added later), the third-party advertising SDK tells Yutou Novels the estimated revenue of each ad impression (amount, currency and precision), and Yutou Novels sends it to us with the work, the chapter and the ad format. We add it up per work and day for work statistics and author benefits, and limit how many times one reader counts each day, to prevent fraud. For the rewarded video ads you watch to unlock short drama episodes, Yutou Novels sends us the estimated revenue with the short drama and the episode; it is counted on its own and not in the original work's ad revenue or author benefits. The rewarded video ads you watch to cheer for a work are counted on their own too: the cheers are used to settle the author's earnings (see "Supporting authors" in item (3)), and Yutou Novels sends us their estimated revenue with the token of that cheer, to check the platform's income; neither counts in the work's ad revenue or the full-attendance bonus.
- House ads: besides the third-party ads described in item (2) of Part 4, the Yutou Novels apps may show, in the same places and under the same rules, ads we publish ourselves or on behalf of advertisers ("house ads"), including banner ads, ads between chapters and rewarded video ads. House ads do not use a third-party advertising SDK: when requesting a house ad, Yutou Novels sends our server the ad unit, the work and chapter, the size of the display area, the language, the app version, the operating system you use, and the account or random install ID described under "Reader identifier" in this item. House ads are placed only by the work you are reading and its category, the ad unit and the operating system you use; they are not targeted by your personal characteristics and do not use your reading history or interest tags. We record each impression, click, completed view and close of a house ad, with the ad, the work and the time, to bill advertisers (an author seeing ads in their own work is not billed), to cap how often one reader sees the same ad, to prevent cheating and fake traffic, to measure ad results and to calculate works' ad revenue (for work statistics, author benefits and the revenue settlement of signed works); these records tell readers and networks apart only by keyed hashes calculated from the account, the random install ID or the IP address, the IP address itself is never stored in the database, and the details are kept for the period in Part 6. Advertisers only see aggregate data such as impressions, clicks and spend, never who the readers are. When you tap a house ad, what opens is the advertiser's web page or app store page, which handles your information under its own rules. A house ad's "About this ad" (关于这条广告) says who placed it and why it was shown, and you can report an inappropriate ad there; we record the ad reported, the reason and your note, and a keyed hash calculated as above (to avoid duplicate reports), kept for the period of report and governance records in Part 6.
- Feature usage statistics: we may add up, per day, how often and how long each feature and page is used (including reading, listening and short drama watching time) and the type and version of the client used, to count work statistics, understand how features are used and improve the Service; readers are told apart in the same way as for reading statistics, and the totals do not identify readers.
- Reader identifier: when you are signed in, readers are told apart by account; when you are not, Yutou Novels (including the website) uses a random install ID created on your device or in your browser and sent with requests, which does not contain and is not derived from your device or account information. Where an install ID is not available, we tell readers apart with a keyed hash of your IP address; only this hash is stored in the database, never the IP address itself. The guest wallet set up when you buy Yutou coins in the iOS app without signing in (see item (10)) is used only for coins and purchased content (including the paid chapter subscription records in item (2)); reading statistics, impressions and personal recommendations still tell readers who are not signed in apart as described in this item.
- Before consent and after withdrawal: before you agree to this policy, or after you withdraw your consent, Yutou Novels does not send an install ID, and shows no ads and reports no ad revenue; we only add to a work's total views, reads and impressions and do not keep a reader identifier for you; to avoid counting repeated impressions and to prevent fraud, the server temporarily (until the end of the day at most) uses your IP address and client type, or a keyed hash of them, in memory, without writing them to the database or using them to identify you.
- Security and logs: to prevent fraudulent registration, account theft and fake traffic, we limit how often registration, sign-in, getting codes, publishing content, reporting and similar actions can be done per hash of the IP address, account, random install ID, phone number or email, and control concurrent registration and sign-in per hash of the phone number or email; our servers keep access logs, including IP address, time of access, request method and address, response status and size, referring page address and client type (the identifying string of the browser or app), to fix problems, keep the Service secure and meet legal obligations.
- Governance records: if your account is suspended, or your nickname, avatar or content is handled for breaking laws, regulations or the User Agreement, we record the action, the reason, the nickname and avatar before and after, the staff member and the time, to review appeals, deal with disputes and meet legal obligations. The same is recorded when a bio is cleared or a picture is blocked (including the bio before it was cleared); the content digest of a blocked picture is kept while it is blocked, to refuse uploads of the same picture.
Other than content you paste yourself, our apps do not read your device serial number, IMEI, MAC address, advertising ID, location, contacts or clipboard (except the third-party SDKs described in Part 4). Where another third-party SDK integrated later needs to read any of this information, the Appendix states it.
After you install one of our apps from an app store, the app may read, on your device, the install source information that app store provides (for example, the work you were viewing before you downloaded it), only to open the corresponding content for you on your device; it is not sent to us unless you separately agree to the processing described in item (11).
(7) Personal recommendations
"Recommended for you" and "Readers of this book also read" in Yutou Novels are produced by our recommendation algorithm.
- How it works: recommendations combine each work's own data (such as the share of readers who finish its first chapters, current readers, the share who add it to their library, its rating, the click rate of recommendations and recent updates) with your reading interests (when personal recommendations are on). They keep a few places for new works, give some works (for example signed works that reach a certain length) a higher weight for a certain period or number of impressions, limit how many works of one author or one category are shown, and never recommend to you works by authors you blocked or your own works; our staff can pin or block works. "Readers of this book also read" is generated from aggregated links between many readers' reading records and from the works' categories and tags (including tags we compile from the works' content), and is the same for all readers.
- Information personal recommendations use: the works you read recently (currently the last 90 days) and how much you read them, and, when you are signed in, your library, ratings and the authors you follow; when you are not signed in, the random install ID is used, never the IP address. From these we infer the categories of works you prefer ("interest tags") and recommend works of those categories, works similar to the ones you read and works of authors you follow first. Interest tags are used only to recommend works to you, are not used for ads and are not provided to third parties; currently they are worked out each time a recommendation is made and are not stored.
- Recommendation impressions: which works a recommendation place showed is counted as described under "Impressions" in item (6), to calculate the click rate of recommendations.
- Your choices: you can turn off personal recommendations at any time under "Recommendation settings" in "Me" in Yutou Novels; after that, recommendations are ordered only by the works' own data, the higher weight given to some works as described above, and our staff's settings. On the same page you can see and remove interest tags; the record of removed tags is kept on your device. If you have not agreed to this policy, we do not give you personal recommendations.
We do not use the recommendation algorithm to induce addiction, or to treat you unreasonably differently.
(8) System permissions
We use system permissions only where a feature needs them. We currently use:
- Network: network access, to connect to our servers.
- Background audio playback: to keep playing listening audio on the lock screen or in the background; some mobile clients also use a foreground service (playback controls in the notification area) and keep the device awake.
- Installing apps: in the apps installed from our website or from some app stores (not the iOS apps), used to install new versions you download through in-app updates; you can refuse.
- Reading the install source: in some mobile apps installed from an app store (except the iOS apps), used to read from that app store the install source information described in item (6); granted by the system at installation, without a prompt.
- File selection: when you import an e-book or choose an image such as an avatar, a cover or an illustration, the system's file or photo picker reads the files you choose. Pictures and stickers for comments and moments are chosen the same way. So are the identity document photos uploaded for electronic signing.
- Permissions of third-party SDKs: in the Yutou Novels mobile apps (except the iOS app), the third-party advertising SDK uses the permissions to access the network, read network status and get the advertising ID, and the system ad services' permissions for the ad ID, ad attribution and ad topics; in the Yutou Novels app installed from our website or from some app stores (not the iOS app) and the Yutou Writer mobile app (except the iOS app), the Alipay client SDK also uses the permissions to read network status and Wi-Fi status. These permissions are granted by the system at installation without a prompt; see the Appendix.
- Tracking (iOS app only): in the Yutou Novels iOS app, right after you first start the app and agree to this policy, we ask for permission to track through the system prompt, so the third-party advertising SDK can read the device's advertising identifier; in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some other regions, the consent options provided by the SDK, described in item (2) of Part 4, are shown first. If you have given separate consent to ad measurement and allow tracking in that system prompt, the ad measurement SDK described in item (2) of Part 4 may also read the device's advertising identifier, to measure the results of our promotion. When you agree again after this policy is updated, the system asks if it has not asked before; once you have made a choice, it does not ask again. You can refuse, or change it at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; refusing does not affect reading or rewarded-video rewards.
- Photos: when you choose an avatar or submit a support ticket in the iOS apps of Yutou Novels and Yutou Writer, you can choose images from your photo library as your avatar or as attachments through the system photo picker; the same applies when you add pictures or stickers to comments and moments in the Yutou Novels iOS app; and likewise when you upload the identity document photos needed for electronic signing in the Yutou Writer iOS app; the picker gives the app only the images you choose, the app does not read anything else in your photo library, and you do not need to grant photo library permission. As the system requires, both apps declare purpose strings for the photo library and the camera, but they have no way to take photos and never use the camera; when you sign electronically and the e-signature service's page, opened in a browser page, needs face recognition, the browser or the system asks you for camera access, and the face images captured are collected by that service (see "Electronic signing" in item (4)).
We currently do not ask for location, contacts, microphone, calendar or Bluetooth permissions, and apart from the permission to track described above, we do not ask to track your activity in other companies' apps and websites. If a feature later needs a new permission (for example the notification permission), we will first state the permission and its purpose in this item, and ask for it only when you use that feature; you can refuse it, or turn it off in the system settings at any time, without affecting other features. Where information obtained through a new permission is a kind of personal information not described in this policy, Part 11 applies.
(9) When your consent is not required
Under the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, we may process your personal information without your consent where it is:
- necessary to conclude or perform a contract to which you are a party;
- necessary to perform statutory duties or obligations;
- necessary to respond to a public health emergency, or to protect a person's life, health or property in an emergency;
- processed within a reasonable scope for news reporting, public opinion supervision or similar acts in the public interest;
- personal information you disclosed yourself or that was otherwise lawfully disclosed, processed within a reasonable scope according to law;
- otherwise provided for by laws and administrative regulations.
(10) Purchases and payment
When you buy Yutou membership or Yutou coins, or use Yutou coins to buy chapters and works, unlock short drama episodes or other services, we process transaction and payment information:
- Orders and entitlements: the order number, product, amount, when the order was placed and paid, payment method, order status, trade number, amounts paid and refunded, your Yutou coin balance and the records of coins received and spent, and the source and period of your membership.
- Alipay: on the websites and in the Yutou Novels app installed from our website or from some app stores (not the iOS app), you can pay with Alipay. We only give Alipay the order number, the product name, the amount and the time limit for paying; after Alipay notifies us of the result, we keep only what is needed to check orders and handle refunds (the notification number, order number, trade number, trade status, amounts and the related times), not the buyer account, funding sources or coupon details in the notification.
- App stores: when you buy through an app store (for example through the App Store in Yutou Novels for iOS), the app store processes the payment. We receive transaction information from your device and the app store, including the original transaction receipt issued by the app store (which may include a device verification value generated by the app store), the transaction ID, product, purchase and expiry times, price and currency, storefront country or region, and renewal and refund status. When you buy while signed in, or buy Yutou coins in the iOS app without signing in (see "Guest wallet" in this item), we give the app store a randomly generated account identifier and ask it for the transaction status, and this identifier does not contain, and cannot be used to work out, your phone number, email or account number; for other purchases made without signing in (for example Yutou membership bought without signing in), no such identifier is given, your device sends us the transaction information only when you sign in and restore purchases (or the purchase is added to your account automatically after you sign in), and until then the transaction notices the app store sends us are not linked to any Yutou account.
- Guest wallet: in Yutou Novels for iOS, you can buy and use Yutou coins without signing in. The first time you tap to buy coins without signing in, we set up a guest wallet for this device before you pay: your device generates a random credential and keeps it in the Keychain (see Part 3), and we keep only its hash; when you buy or use coins or check your coin balance, and when you open a chapter list, read or listen to a chapter or watch a short drama (to tell what you have bought), your device uses it to show us that it is this guest wallet. On our servers the guest wallet keeps your coin balance and the records of coins received and spent, the chapters and works bought with coins (including the paid chapter subscription records in item (2)) and the short drama episodes unlocked with them, the related transaction information and the random account identifier described under "App stores" in this item, the version of the User Agreement and this policy you agreed to when it was set up, with the time, and the date you last used it to buy coins; it does not need your phone number, email or nickname, and we collect no device information such as the device model or device identifiers for it. To prevent abuse, we limit how often guest wallets can be set up by IP address and random install ID (see "Security and logs" in item (6)). Once you sign in or register on this device, the guest wallet's coin balance (which may be negative) and the chapters, works and short drama episodes bought are added to that account automatically, and the guest wallet is closed; we keep a record of the merge (when, into which account and how much), and if coins bought before the merge are later refunded or similar, they are taken back from that account. The guest wallet is used only for coins and purchased content and cannot be used for features that need an account, such as comments and direct messages. You can delete this device's coins, which deletes the guest wallet, on the coins page; see Parts 6 and 8.
- Payment collection and invoices: we may entrust our affiliate with collecting payments, handling refunds and issuing invoices (see item (1) of Part 4); it processes only the order and transaction information needed for this. If you ask for an invoice, we also process the name the invoice is made out to, the taxpayer identification number (if any) and the email address or mobile number the invoice is sent to, to issue and deliver the invoice and meet tax obligations.
- When you pay, we never receive your bank card number or payment password, nor the payment card information you use in the app store. The receiving account authors provide to receive payments is handled as described in item (4).
This information is used to grant and check entitlements, determine which chapters you can read and whether ads are shown, send you notices such as order results and membership expiry, handle refunds and disputes, and meet accounting, tax and other legal obligations; it is necessary to conclude and perform the purchase contract (see item (9)). If you do not provide it, you cannot buy, but you can still use the free features.
(11) Ad measurement
We promote the Service on third-party ad platforms (for example to recruit authors, recommend works or promote our apps). To measure and improve the results of this promotion (including the app installs and usage the ads bring) and check what it costs, after you give separate consent, we process the following information and give the conversion events, with the ad click identifiers they belong to, to the ad platform that placed the ad:
- Ad click information: when you come to the Service through an ad, the ad click identifier the ad platform put in the link, the parameters of the promotion and the time you came.
- Conversion events: actions you then complete in the Service that relate to the purpose of the promotion, such as opening the app for the first time after installing it, registering an account, signing up for an event, reading or listening for the first time, starting a membership and making a purchase, with their times and amounts.
- Measurement information in the apps: where a mobile app offers this feature (currently only the Yutou Novels iOS app), the ad measurement SDK described in item (2) of Part 4 collects on your device, and sends directly to its provider, an app instance identifier it generates, device identifiers (an app- or developer-scoped device ID and, with the system's permission, the device's advertising identifier), basic device and app information (for example device model, OS version, language and app version), your IP address and the approximate location inferred from it, the install source information provided by the app store, and the conversion events above together with how the app is used (for example how often and how long it is opened and which feature pages are used).
- Measurement code on the websites: if we later use an ad platform's measurement code on the websites with your consent, it uses cookies or similar identifiers; see Part 3.
We do not give ad platforms your phone number, email, nickname, account number or what you read; the ad platforms process this information under their own privacy policies and may use it to improve their ad services. If you have not agreed, or have turned it off, we do not keep ad click identifiers or give the information above to ad platforms; not agreeing does not affect your use of the rest of the Service. If you have not agreed, the ad measurement SDK does not collect or send any information on your device. You can turn ad measurement off at any time at the bottom of the website pages or in the app settings; we then stop processing and providing it and the SDK stops collecting and sending. Turning it off does not affect processing already carried out on the basis of your consent; for how the information sent and provided before is kept and deleted, see Part 6. We do not carry out ad measurement for users under fourteen. The names, locations and contact details of the recipients and of the ad measurement SDK's provider are listed on the consent page; see the Appendix.
(12) Short dramas
Some works in Yutou Novels have short dramas (including comic dramas and live-action short dramas) that we produce or are licensed to offer, provided as series of episodes. During playback your device asks us for the episode and fetches the video from the object storage we use (see item (1) of Part 4).
- Watching and unlocking: anyone can watch episode 1 of each short drama for free without signing in; later episodes are unlocked one at a time: those unlocked after you sign in stay unlocked on your account; in Yutou Novels for iOS you can also unlock them without signing in with the coins in the guest wallet (not with rewarded videos), and those unlocks are kept in the guest wallet (see "Guest wallet" in item (10)). Currently you can unlock an episode by watching a rewarded video ad in the Yutou Novels apps, or with Yutou coins, and during your Yutou membership you can watch every episode without unlocking them one by one. We record the short dramas and episodes you unlock, how and when you unlocked them (and, for coins, how many coins were used), to determine which episodes you can watch, sync them between your devices and handle disputes. On the websites you can watch episode 1 and, with coins or membership, later episodes; unlocking with rewarded videos is offered only in the Yutou Novels apps.
- Unlocking with a rewarded video: to confirm that you watched the rewarded video ad to the end, before it plays we create a one-time random token and give it to the third-party advertising SDK; after you finish watching, the provider's servers send this token and the reward result to our servers, and we then unlock the episode on your account. The token does not contain, and cannot be used to work out, your phone number, email or account number, and it stops working once used or expired; we keep the reward transaction number the provider sends, to prevent duplicate unlocks and fake traffic. If you close the video before the end, the episode is not unlocked. How the SDK handles your personal information is described in item (2) of Part 4.
- Unlocking with Yutou coins: handled as described in item (10); the price of each episode is shown on the page.
- Watch records: when you are signed in, we may keep the episode and position you reached in each short drama, so you can continue on your other devices; when you are not, they stay only on your device. Viewing statistics are described in item (6).
If you do not sign in, you can still watch episode 1 of each short drama.
(13) Placing ads
When you turn on ad placement on the ad placement page of the Yutou Novels website and place ads through us as an advertiser (the "Yutou Ad Network", 芋头广告联盟), we process the following:
- Business qualification: the type of entity, its name, unified social credit code, domicile, industry and business licence, and the supporting documents you upload to prove the ad content (for example industry licences, trademarks or brand authorizations). We only take ads from enterprises and individual businesses (个体工商户); an individual business's licence carries personal information such as the operator's name, and its domicile may be the operator's home address.
- Contact details: the contact person's name, phone number and email address (the email address is optional). Before giving us someone else's contact details, please tell them.
- Account and placement records: your advertiser account's top-up orders, balance and transactions, refund requests and refund records, campaigns, ad creatives and their review records, and the version and time of the Yutou Ad Network Advertiser Service Agreement you accepted.
This information is used to check and register advertisers' real identities, addresses and valid contact details and keep advertising files that are checked regularly, as the Advertising Law of the People's Republic of China, the Measures for the Administration of Internet Advertising and other rules require; to review ad creatives; for billing, settlement, refunds of balances and invoices; to handle reports and disputes; and to meet legal obligations. Payments for top-ups are handled as described in item (10). Your entity's name is shown in "About this ad" of your ads to people who see them; when they or the authorities lawfully ask, we provide your name, address and valid contact details (see item (3) of Part 4). Our staff review and see this information as their roles allow; the admin console partly hides phone numbers and email addresses, and viewing full contact details or the business licence is logged. We do not give advertisers readers' personal information; advertisers only see the aggregate data described under "House ads" in item (6). Before you turn it on, the page clearly explains this processing, and you must read and accept the Yutou Ad Network Advertiser Service Agreement to turn it on; if you do not turn it on, none of this information arises. See Part 6 for how long it is kept and Part 9 for account deletion.
(14) Publishers
When you turn on publisher access on the publisher page of our website and integrate the Yutou Ad Network into your own apps to show its ads in them and receive a share of the revenue (as a "publisher"), we process the following:
- Business qualification: for enterprises and individual businesses, the type of entity, its name, unified social credit code, domicile and business licence; an individual business's licence carries personal information such as the operator's name, and its domicile may be the operator's home address. Individuals use the real name verified in the payee information check as the entity's name.
- Contact details: the contact person's name, phone number and email address (individuals may leave them out; for enterprises and individual businesses the email address is optional). Before giving us someone else's contact details, please tell them.
- Apps and ad units: the name, operating systems, package name or similar identifier, app store or download page links, filing number, category and description of the apps you register, the ad units you create, and their review and handling records.
- Revenue, settlement and withdrawals: daily totals of requests, fills, impressions, clicks, completed views and revenue for your apps and their units; monthly statements, the withdrawable balance and records of its changes, and withdrawal requests with their handling and payment records; the account name, bank and account number of the receiving account that enterprises and individual businesses give when withdrawing, and the invoices they upload; and, for individual publishers, the calculation and records of the individual income tax withheld.
- Acceptance records: the version and time of the Yutou Ad Network Publisher Agreement and the Yutou Ad Network SDK Personal Information Rules you accepted.
- Payee information of individual publishers: individuals complete the payee information check after turning on publisher access. What the paragraph on receiving royalty shares, the full-attendance bonus or other payments in item (4) says about payee information and its verification, the separate notice and separate consent, who can see it, and giving it to the banks or payment institutions that make transfers and to the tax authorities, applies equally to the revenue share you receive as an individual publisher; we withhold individual income tax on it as income from remuneration for labour services and report to the tax authorities according to law.
This information is used to review publishers' business qualifications and apps, check that apps meet the integration requirements, calculate and confirm revenue shares, prevent cheating and fake traffic, check invoices and pay revenue shares, withhold individual income tax according to law, handle disputes and meet legal obligations. When we, or the affiliate we entrust (see item (1) of Part 4), pay you, the account name and number of the receiving account are given to the bank that makes the transfer (see item (3) of Part 4). Our staff review and see this information as their roles allow; the admin console partly hides phone numbers and email addresses, and viewing full contact details, business licences, receiving account numbers or invoices is logged. We do not give publishers the personal information of readers or of their apps' users; publishers only see aggregate data about their own apps. How the Yutou Ad Network SDK processes the personal information of users in publishers' apps is described in the Yutou Ad Network SDK Personal Information Rules (see Part 1). Before you turn it on, the page clearly explains this processing, and you must read and accept the Yutou Ad Network Publisher Agreement and the Yutou Ad Network SDK Personal Information Rules to turn it on; if you do not turn it on, none of this information arises. See Part 6 for how long it is kept and Part 9 for account deletion.
3. Local storage and similar technologies
- Apps: on your device we keep your sign-in credential (in the secure storage the system provides, the Keychain on iOS), library, reading progress and history, reading, listening and appearance settings, recommendation settings, local books, Yutou Writer's drafts, writing materials such as outlines, characters and settings, and copies of your works, and the random install ID used when you are not signed in, separately per account. Yutou Novels also keeps in the app's storage the time until which watching rewarded videos turned ads off (see Part 4); it is kept per device rather than per account, only applies on this device and is never sent to us. Yutou Novels for iOS also keeps the result of checking which Yutou account a membership bought without signing in belongs to, with that membership's transaction ID, told apart by a digest of the account number, so that it is not checked again. Yutou Novels also keeps how far you have watched short dramas on your device, and only there when you are not signed in. When you buy Yutou coins without signing in, Yutou Novels for iOS also keeps the guest wallet's random credential and number in the Keychain (see item (10) of Part 2); they are not deleted when you sign out, and stop working once the guest wallet is added to an account or deleted. If you give separate consent to ad measurement in the Yutou Novels iOS app, the ad measurement SDK also keeps on your device the app instance identifier it generates and similar information (see item (11) of Part 2).
- Websites: this data is kept in the browser's local storage, and the sign-in credential is kept in session storage and cleared when you close the page. By default the websites use no cookies and no third-party analytics or tracking scripts; if you agree to ad measurement, the ad click identifier is kept in the browser's local storage for at most 90 days, and if we later use an ad platform's measurement code with your consent, it may use cookies or similar identifiers (see item (11) of Part 2). When a page needs characters its built-in fonts lack, your browser downloads supplementary fonts from the font service abroad listed in the Appendix. If we later use cookies for sign-in security, we will use only this website's own cookies needed for sign-in and security; if we use a human verification service in registration, sign-in or similar steps, its verification script is included only in those steps, and the service is listed in the Appendix.
- You can delete this local data by signing out, uninstalling the app or clearing this website's data in your browser (for the guest wallet's random credential, see the first item of this part). On iOS the sign-in credential in the Keychain may remain after uninstalling the app, so we recommend signing out before uninstalling; the guest wallet's random credential may likewise remain after uninstalling the app.
4. Entrusted processing, sharing, transfer and public disclosure
We require the service providers, partners and third-party SDK providers that receive your personal information to protect it to the same standard under laws, regulations and this policy. Their names, locations, the information they process and their contact details are given in the Appendix.
(1) Entrusted processing
We entrust Alibaba Cloud Computing Co., Ltd. with cloud servers and databases (in mainland China), a text message service (sending verification codes by text message), business email (sending email verification codes and sending and receiving customer service email) and an identity verification service (checking whether the payee information authors and individual publishers provide to receive payments matches), and with object storage (keeping the pictures and other files you upload); our servers call these services (your device also connects directly to the object storage when you upload or view pictures), and they do not run on your device. We also entrust our affiliate Taizhou Yutou Chuhai Technology Co., Ltd. (台州芋头出海科技有限公司), located in mainland China, with providing parts of the Service and handling matters related to it, including collecting payments, handling refunds and issuing invoices, and settling and paying authors and publishers, issuing or obtaining invoices and withholding individual income tax according to law, as well as placing promotional materials and settling with ad platforms; it may process only the personal information needed for these matters (such as order and transaction information, the payee information and settlement records of authors and publishers, and personal information authors put in promotional materials), as we instruct and for the purposes in this policy. We agree with the entrusted parties on the purpose, method, duration and safeguards of processing and supervise their processing. We may also entrust service providers in China with technical services such as AI translation, proofreading, writing and review assistance, search understanding and work categorization, speech synthesis, content security review, online customer service and data backup; they may process only the information needed for that service, as we instruct. When we add or replace a service provider, we update the Appendix. The listening audio, short drama videos and similar content we provide are kept in the object storage above too, and your device fetches them from it directly when you listen or watch.
(2) Third-party SDKs
Once an SDK starts, its provider collects the information listed in the Appendix directly on your device and processes it under its own privacy policy, and you can exercise your rights against the provider in the ways that policy describes. We currently use three kinds of SDKs:
- Advertising: the third-party advertising SDK is integrated only in the Yutou Novels apps (including the iOS app) and is used to show ads in works offered as "free with ads" and to play the rewarded videos you choose to watch. Ads come in three formats: banner ads below the text on the reading page; interstitial ads shown between chapters after you have read several chapters in a row; and rewarded video ads you choose to watch on the reading page. Rewarded video ads are also used for other rewards you choose, currently unlocking short drama episodes on the short drama player page and cheering for works on their pages. If we later change the formats or placements of ads or when the SDK starts, we will first update this item and the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page and tell you in the app, and the information collected and its purposes will stay within the scope described in this item and the Appendix. Once you agree to this policy, we start the SDK when ads need to be shown: it starts only when you read chapters of such works after the preview chapters, or, while ad-free time earned by watching rewarded videos is running, when you open the reading menu or choose to watch another rewarded video, or when you choose on the short drama player page to watch a rewarded video to unlock an episode, or when you choose to watch a rewarded video to cheer for a work; if you only read free works and preview chapters, only watch free or already unlocked short drama episodes and do not choose to cheer for works, it does not start. In the Yutou Novels apps, chapters of works free with ads after the preview chapters can only be read once you agree to this policy; if you have not agreed to this policy, we do not start the SDK. Ads are how we offer reading for free and cannot be turned off on their own; after you watch a rewarded video on the reading page to the end, this device shows no banner or interstitial ads for a while; this reward is kept only on your device, as the time until which ads are off, and is never sent to us. Unlocking short drama episodes and cheering for works with rewarded videos give no ad-free time; the unlocks and cheers are kept on your account (see items (12) and (3) of Part 2). For this, when such a rewarded video plays, we give the SDK a one-time random token, which its provider sends back to our servers with the reward result after you finish watching. Once started, the SDK's provider collects the information listed in the Appendix, such as device identifiers, your IP address and the approximate location inferred from it, to serve ads, measure ad performance and prevent fraud. In the iOS app, we request personalized ads from the SDK only after you allow tracking in the system prompt; the SDK then chooses ads using the advertising identifier together with information its provider obtained from other apps and websites. If you refuse or cannot grant permission, and in the other Yutou Novels apps, we request only non-personalized ads. Whether you allow tracking does not affect reading or rewarded-video rewards; when we ask is described in item (8) of Part 2. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some other regions, consent options provided by the SDK are shown first; if you refuse there, the provider decides whether to show limited ads or no ads, and you can choose again on the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page under "Me" in Yutou Novels. The SDK's name and the provider's name and contact details are listed on the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page under "Me" in Yutou Novels, and you can also ask us for them as described in Part 12; you can ask the provider to access, copy, correct or delete this information in the ways its privacy policy describes. The SDK's provider is outside the People's Republic of China (in the United States), and your device sends the information above directly to it for processing. The SDK also tells Yutou Novels the estimated revenue of each ad impression, which Yutou Novels reports to us per work, per short drama and episode for short dramas, and with the cheer, counted on its own, when you cheer for a work (see item (6) of Part 2). If you see an inappropriate ad, you can report it by choosing "Report an ad" on the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page.
- Payment: the Alipay client SDK is integrated only in the Yutou Novels app installed from our website or from some app stores (not the iOS app) and the Yutou Writer mobile app (except the iOS app). In Yutou Novels it starts only when you choose to pay with Alipay, to open Alipay to complete the payment and keep the transaction secure; in Yutou Writer it starts only when you choose to link Alipay to receive payments, to open Alipay to complete the authorization. The Yutou Writer iOS app integrates the Alipay sign-in SDK (App 支付宝登录 SDK, lite version) instead, which likewise starts only when you choose to link Alipay to receive payments, to open Alipay to complete the authorization, and according to its provider collects no personal information.
- Ad measurement: the ad measurement SDK is currently integrated only in the Yutou Novels iOS app and collects and sends information only after you give separate consent to ad measurement as described in item (11) of Part 2; if you have not agreed, it does not collect or send any information on your device, and once you turn ad measurement off it stops collecting and sending. It collects the information listed in the Appendix on your device, to measure the app installs and usage brought by our promotion on third-party ad platforms and check what it costs. It may read the device's advertising identifier only after you allow tracking in the system prompt. The ad measurement SDK's name and the provider's name and contact details are listed on the consent page and on the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page under "Me" in Yutou Novels, and you can also ask us for them as described in Part 12; you can ask the provider to access, copy, correct or delete this information in the ways its privacy policy describes. The SDK's provider is outside the People's Republic of China (in the United States), and your device sends this information directly to it for processing.
If we later offer message reminders in your phone's notification area, we may integrate a push notification SDK (including push channels provided by phone makers); the information it collects will not go beyond device identifiers (the push ID assigned by the push service, and the OAID), device brand and model, OS version, network type, carrier information and whether notifications are switched on, and it is used only to deliver the Service's notifications to your device. To find and fix app crashes and performance problems, we may integrate a crash diagnostics SDK; the information it collects will not go beyond device brand and model, OS version, app version, network type, IP address, a random install ID generated by the SDK, and the stack trace, logs and app state at the time of a crash or freeze, and it is used only to find and fix problems.
Where a new or replacement SDK is entrusted by us with processing personal information, or its provider is already listed in the Appendix, and the information it collects, its purposes and its methods are all within the scope described in this item and the Appendix, we will, before starting it, add its name, provider, the information collected, purposes, permissions used and contact details to the Appendix and tell you in the app: for Yutou Novels, it is also added to the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page under "Me" in Yutou Novels; for Yutou Writer, the Appendix is the list, and we tell you in the feature that uses the SDK, before it starts (for example on the notice page shown before you link Alipay to receive payments). Where a new SDK provider processes personal information for its own purposes, or an SDK needs to collect a kind of personal information not described in this policy or to send personal information outside the People's Republic of China, Part 11 applies.
(3) Sharing
Apart from the third-party SDKs in item (2), we provide your personal information to other personal information handlers only in the following cases, and only the information needed for the purpose:
- Alipay: when you pay with Alipay (for example for Yutou membership, Yutou coins or ad services), we give Alipay (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd. the order number, the product name, the amount and the time limit for paying, to complete the payment, which is necessary to conclude and perform the purchase contract; we do not give it your phone number, email, nickname or other account information. If we add other payment institutions later, what we give them stays within these limits, and they will be listed in the Appendix.
- App stores: when you buy through an app store, we ask its operator for the transaction status, and when you buy while signed in, or buy Yutou coins in the iOS app without signing in, we also give it the random account identifier, to complete and check the purchase.
- Banks, payment institutions, settlement service providers and tax authorities: when paying royalty shares, cash rewards or publishers' revenue shares, we, or the affiliate we entrust (see item (1)), give the institution that makes the transfer or settlement your name or entity name, your receiving account and, where needed for the payment, your ID document number, and report to the tax authorities the information needed to withhold individual income tax according to law. If you choose to receive payments with Alipay, the transfer is made by Alipay (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd. (see the Appendix), and when you link the account we may also give it your name and ID document number to check that the account is verified under your own identity.
- Ad platforms: after you submit promotional materials for a work and give separate consent, we, or the affiliate we entrust (see item (1)), give third-party ad platforms and their video platforms the materials and the title, synopsis, cover and link of the work they are for, to place ads; if the materials contain personal information you put in them (for example your voice or pen name), it is provided together with the materials. We do not give them your account information such as your phone number, email or account number, or any reader's personal information; from the ad platforms we only get back promotion data in total, such as impressions and clicks, which do not identify viewers. The recipients are outside the People's Republic of China (see Part 5); their names, locations, contact details and how to exercise your rights against them are listed under "Promotion partners" on the page where you submit promotional materials; see the Appendix. Promotional content that we make ourselves for signed works and place as ads contains none of your personal information.
- Ad platforms (ad measurement): after you give separate consent to ad measurement, we give the third-party ad platform that placed the ad the ad click identifier and the conversion events with their times and amounts (see item (11) of Part 2), but not your phone number, email, nickname or account number. The recipients are outside the People's Republic of China (see Part 5); their names, locations and contact details are listed on the consent page; see the Appendix. In the Yutou Novels iOS app, the measurement information in the apps described in item (11) of Part 2 is collected on your device by the ad measurement SDK and sent directly to its provider; see item (2).
- E-signature service: when you sign a work's signing contract with an electronic signature in Yutou Writer and have given separate consent under the Separate Notice on Personal Information for Electronic Signing, we give the e-signature service (see the Appendix) your name, ID document number, reserved mobile number (and bank card number when your identity is verified through the bank card), the records of your payee information check and the identity document photos you upload, and the full text of the signing contract, so that it and the electronic certification service it works with can verify your identity, issue a digital certificate and sign and preserve the electronic contract; the e-signature service provides the real-name verification and signing pages, the identity information we give it is filled in on the real-name verification page in advance, and it collects what you do and enter there (including the face images captured for face recognition, which we neither receive nor keep). Party A to such contracts is our affiliate Taizhou Yutou Chuhai Technology Co., Ltd., which as a party to the contract receives the signing contract and the signing records, and obtains your payee information and settlement records to perform the contract (see the Appendix).
- Advertiser information: as the Advertising Law of the People's Republic of China, the Measures for the Administration of Internet Advertising and other rules require, when people who see the ads or the authorities ask, we give them advertisers' names, addresses and valid contact details (see item (13) of Part 2).
- Copyright registration and enforcement: to register copyright in signed works, prove ownership to licensees or enforce rights, we give the necessary signing information to copyright registration bodies, licensees or parties to legal proceedings, as agreed in the signing contract.
- As required by law: as required by laws and regulations, or by administrative or judicial authorities acting according to law.
Apart from the cases in this policy, we do not share your personal information with other companies, organizations or individuals; where sharing is truly necessary, we will tell you the recipient's name and contact details, the purpose and method of processing and the kinds of personal information, and obtain your separate consent.
(4) Transfer
If personal information must be transferred because of a merger, division, dissolution, bankruptcy or similar reason, we will tell you the recipient's name and contact details and require the recipient to continue to meet the obligations of this policy. If the recipient changes the original purpose or method of processing, it must obtain your consent again.
(5) Public disclosure
We do not publicly disclose your personal information unless you separately consent or laws and regulations require it. The nickname, avatar, comments, posts and works you choose to make public, your bio, moments and the pictures in them, and the nickname, avatar and fan points you choose to show in fan rankings when cheering for works, are shown to all users as you choose. If you place ads as an advertiser, your entity's name is shown in your ads to people who see them (see item (13) of Part 2).
5. Where information is stored and cross-border transfer
- We operate the Service in the People's Republic of China, and your personal information is stored on servers in mainland China.
- During testing, the Service used a server outside mainland China. On September 24, 2026 we copied the data then on it to the mainland server; since then the two servers have been separate. For accounts registered before that date, and accounts used on that server afterwards through early app versions or the old addresses, the account information and the library, reading records, comments, works and similar information are still stored on that server and its backups, and deleting your account in the current version does not delete this information. We plan to retire that server and delete all personal information on it when we do; until then you can ask us to delete it as described in Part 12, and we will delete it within 15 working days after verifying your identity.
- In the following cases, your personal information is processed outside mainland China:
- once the third-party advertising SDK in Part 4 starts, your device sends the information listed there to its provider abroad;
- the websites' supplementary fonts are downloaded by your browser directly from a public font service abroad, which receives the IP address, browser type and this website's address;
- when you pay through an app store or a payment institution abroad, the transaction is processed by the app store operator or payment institution, which may be abroad (for example Apple, the operator of the App Store, is outside mainland China), and we give it the information needed to complete the payment (such as the random account identifier) and ask it for the transaction status;
- after you submit promotional materials for a work and give separate consent, we provide the materials and the title, synopsis, cover and link of the work they are for, together with personal information you put in the materials (for example your voice or pen name), to ad platforms and their video platforms abroad, to review and place ads and measure their results; see item (3) of Part 4;
- after you give separate consent to ad measurement, we provide the ad click identifier and the conversion events with their times and amounts to ad platforms abroad, to measure the results of promotion and check what it costs; see item (11) of Part 2;
- in the Yutou Novels iOS app, after you give separate consent to ad measurement, your device sends the information the ad measurement SDK collects directly to its provider abroad, to measure the results of promotion and check what it costs; see item (11) of Part 2 and item (2) of Part 4; when we ask the provider to delete this information, we give it the app instance identifier the SDK generates; see Part 6;
- when we later offer system notifications, if notifications are delivered through a system push service abroad (for example the Apple Push Notification service for the iOS app), we will give that service your device's push token and the notification content, and notifications will not contain account information such as your phone number or email; when you turn on notifications in the app, we will explain this and obtain your separate consent.
- The names and contact details of the recipients abroad, the information they process and how to exercise your rights against them are given in Part 4 and the Appendix. Apart from these cases we do not provide your personal information abroad. If we ever need to, we will inform you, obtain your separate consent and complete any other required procedures according to laws and regulations.
6. How long we keep information
We keep your personal information only for the shortest period necessary for the purposes in this policy, unless laws and regulations provide otherwise:
- Information linked to your account (including account information, reading and usage records, interaction records, in-app messages, reading entitlements, short drama unlocks and watch records, cheering records and fan points, coin and membership records, leave days and bonus points of author benefits, and consent records): kept while your account exists; deleted when you delete the content or record concerned; handled as described in Part 9 after account deletion. In particular:
- Follow records: kept until you unfollow or delete your account.
- Stickers: kept until you delete the sticker or your account.
- Paid chapter subscription records: kept while your account exists, to count works' subscriptions; deleted when you delete your account.
- Short drama unlock records: kept while your account exists, to determine which episodes you can watch; the reward transaction number the provider sends is kept with the unlock record. The one-time token for unlocking with a rewarded video stops working once used or expired; together with each reward result the provider sends, it is kept as a verification record for as long as preventing duplicate unlocks, handling disputes and reconciling with the provider require, and then deleted. After you delete your account, the token is removed from the verification record and the record is no longer linked to your account.
- Cheering records: cheers and fan points are kept while your account exists, to show fan rankings and settle authors' earnings. The one-time tokens used to cheer for works, together with each reward result the provider sends, are likewise kept as verification records for as long as preventing duplicate counting, settling authors' earnings, handling disputes and reconciling with the provider require, and then deleted. After you delete your account, the token is removed from the verification record and the record is no longer linked to your account.
- Guest wallet: kept until it is added to an account or you delete it. We may delete a guest wallet that has not been used for a long time and holds no coins or purchased content. Once added, the coins and what was bought with them are kept as information of that account; when that account is deleted, what remains of the guest wallet (such as its coin records from before the merge and the random account identifier) is deleted with it, while the merge record (when, into which account and how much) is kept with the account number record described in Part 9, to handle refunds of purchases made before the merge and disputes. Once you delete the guest wallet, its credential stops working at once, with no cooling-off period, and its information is deleted soon after (usually within 1 day); what is deleted and what is kept apart are the same as for account deletion in Part 9, and the periods of records kept apart, such as transaction records, count from the deletion of the guest wallet.
- Content you publish: kept until you delete the content or your account. Its pictures are deleted once no content or sticker uses them any more; pictures you uploaded but neither published nor added as stickers are deleted after one day. The original text of content hidden by the platform for breaking laws, regulations or the User Agreement is kept as a governance record for verification and disputes, and after you delete your account it is kept for the period of report and governance records below.
- Messages and book groups: messages are kept until a reasonable time after both sides have deleted the conversation (or the book group is dissolved), and for as long as the law requires, then deleted; an unsent message is no longer visible to the others in the conversation, and its content is kept for as long as the law requires and handling reports needs, then deleted; reported messages are kept for the period of report and moderation records below.
- Works and writing information (including listening audio and translations generated from them): kept until the work or the account is deleted, when the listening audio stops being provided and is no longer linked to the work; signed works are handled according to the signing contract. Records we keep when you use AI writing assistance (such as suggestions not yet handled and the points extracted from chapters) are kept for as long as needed to provide that feature; you can clear them at any time, and they are deleted when the work or the account is deleted.
- Promotional materials: materials and placement records are kept until you withdraw the materials, the work is deleted or your account is deleted; the placement then stops and the materials are deleted within a reasonable time. Materials that are not approved, or whose placement we stop, are likewise deleted within a reasonable time. Submission, review and consent records are kept as the basis for handling disputes, for three years after the placement stops. Totals such as the impressions and clicks of the promotion are kept as statistical records, below.
- Placing ads: advertisers' business qualifications, contact details, supporting documents, ad creatives and review records, and the records of accepting the Yutou Ad Network Advertiser Service Agreement, are kept as the advertising file while the advertiser account exists; of these, creatives, supporting documents and business licences no longer in use are deleted three years after the latest of their last showing, their takedown or the end of the campaigns they were in if they were placed, and possibly sooner if they never were. After you delete your account, the advertising file is kept until three years after the latest of when your ads were last shown, your campaigns ended, the creatives were taken down or the account was deleted; then the domicile, the description of the industry, the business licence, the contact person and contact details and the acceptance records are deleted from it, and the domicile and contact details are deleted from the review and handling records too. The top-up, charge and refund records of advertiser accounts, and the type of entity, its name and its unified social credit code kept with them, are kept for the periods of order and payment records below.
- Publishers: publishers' business qualifications, business licences, contact details, the registration and review records of their apps and ad units, and the records of accepting the Yutou Ad Network Publisher Agreement and the Yutou Ad Network SDK Personal Information Rules are kept while the publisher account exists. After you delete your account, they are kept until three years after the latest of the account's deletion, the last monthly settlement and the last handled withdrawal; then the domicile, the business licence, the contact person and contact details and the acceptance records are deleted from them, and of receiving account numbers only a partly hidden form is kept, while the type of entity, its name and its unified social credit code, and the records of monthly settlements, withdrawals, payments, invoices and individual income tax withheld, are kept for the periods required by accounting and tax laws and regulations, then deleted. The payee information of individual publishers is kept for the period of payee and tax information below.
- Ad measurement: ad click identifiers in the browser or on the device are kept for at most 90 days; conversion records on our servers are kept for 13 months after they are provided to the ad platform, to check the results and cost of promotion, and then deleted; if you turn ad measurement off, records not yet provided are no longer provided and are deleted within these periods. The identifiers the ad measurement SDK keeps on your device stay at most until you uninstall the app or clear its data, and are no longer used once you turn ad measurement off; the information it sends to its provider is kept for the period we set in the provider's service, at most 26 months for detailed data linked to a person or device (aggregate statistics that do not identify anyone excepted), and then deleted; once you turn ad measurement off (withdrawing your consent), the SDK stops collecting and sending, the information it sent before is deleted within these periods, we may also ask the provider to delete it earlier, and you can also ask us to delete it earlier as described in Part 12; to ask the provider to delete it, the app may send us the app instance identifier the SDK generates, which we use only to make the deletion request and delete once the request is made; where the provider processes it for its own purposes, it is kept under its privacy policy.
- Records with fixed periods:
- Verification code records: kept for 30 days from sending;
- Rate-limit and concurrency records: kept for no more than 30 days;
- AI book search terms: kept per term, not linked to your account or reader identifier, and deleted when nobody has searched for them for 30 days;
- Details of impressions, clicks, completed views and closes of house ads (see "House ads" in item (6) of Part 2): kept for 100 days from when they arise, then deleted; where an invalid-traffic check is still open when that period ends, the details concerned are kept until the check is resolved, then deleted; daily totals contain no reader identifiers and are kept as statistical records below;
- Report and governance records (including snapshots taken at the time of a report and reported avatar images, nicknames and avatars before and after an action, and the original text of content hidden by the platform): kept for three years after the matter is closed;
- Order and payment records (including Alipay notifications): kept for the periods required by laws and regulations, and no less than three years after the transaction is completed, then deleted; after you delete your account, they are no longer linked to your account;
- App store transaction records: after account deletion, no longer linked to your phone number, email or nickname, and deleted once three years have passed since both the account deletion and the completion of the transaction;
- Signing contracts and signing records, settlement and payment records of royalties and author benefits (including the changes to your withdrawable balance and your withdrawals), and payment and tax information: kept while the contract is in force, and after the contract ends or the payments are settled, for the periods required by accounting and tax laws and regulations, then deleted; the payee information you submit is deleted when you withdraw your consent or delete your account, and where we have already paid you, it is kept for those periods;
- Identity document photos uploaded for electronic signing: only the photos uploaded most recently are kept; if you have signed a signing contract with an electronic signature, they are kept with those contracts for the periods above; otherwise they are kept until you withdraw your consent to the Separate Notice on Personal Information for Electronic Signing or delete your account, and then deleted;
- Verification records of payee information: the time and result of each verification and the reference number returned by the verification service are the basis for settlement and reconciliation, and are kept with the settlement and payment records for those periods; when the result is a mismatch, what you submitted is deleted at once; when it could not be verified or the result is unknown, what you submitted is kept for at most 30 days for staff to review, then deleted;
- Server logs: kept for the period required by laws and regulations.
- Statistical records: work statistics (including ad revenue statistics, impressions and the totals of promotion outside the Service) are kept long-term per day, to calculate works' history and author benefits; viewing and ad revenue statistics of short dramas are likewise kept long-term per day, to count short drama data; statistics of readers who are not signed in tell readers apart only by a random install ID or a keyed hash of the IP address; the parts linked to your account are deleted or anonymized when you delete your account.
- Other information: emails between you and customer service are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and deal with possible disputes; information on the server outside mainland China described in Part 5 is deleted when that server is retired.
After these periods we delete or anonymize your personal information.
7. Security measures
We use HTTPS to encrypt communication; passwords, sign-in credentials and verification codes are stored only as hashes; the database is accessible only from the server itself; the management system uses separate staff accounts with role-based permissions, keeps operation logs and shows phone numbers and emails only partly; registration, sign-in, publishing and similar actions are rate-limited; and uploaded images are stripped of metadata. No internet environment is perfectly secure. If a personal information security incident happens, we will take remedial measures immediately, and inform you and report to the authorities as laws and regulations require. Please keep your account password safe.
8. Your rights
- Access, copy, correction and completion: in the apps you can see your account information, library, reading history, messages and coin records, and in Yutou Writer your works, manuscripts and signing contracts; readers can change their nickname (an author's pen name cannot be changed by the author after becoming an author), and you can change your avatar or go back to the default one. You can change or clear your bio at any time. Advertisers can see and update their business qualification and contact details, and see their account transactions, on the ad placement page. Publishers can see and update their business qualification, contact details and apps, and see their revenue, monthly statements and withdrawals, on the publisher page. To access, copy, correct or complete other personal information, contact us.
- Deletion: you can delete the content you published (including moments), your stickers and your reading history, remove works from your library, unfollow users and delete local books. You can also unsend messages you sent and delete direct conversations (which only changes what you see). In Yutou Novels for iOS, you can delete this device's coins on the coins page, which deletes the guest wallet (see item (10) of Part 2 and Part 6). You can also ask us to delete your personal information in any of the following cases: the purpose of processing has been achieved or cannot be achieved, or the information is no longer necessary for it; we stop providing the product or service, or the retention period has expired; you withdraw consent; we process personal information in breach of laws, administrative regulations or our agreement with you; or other cases provided by laws and administrative regulations. Where the retention period required by laws or administrative regulations has not expired, or deletion is technically difficult, we stop all processing other than storage and the necessary security measures.
- Restricting or refusing processing: you have the right to restrict or refuse our processing of your personal information, unless laws or administrative regulations provide otherwise. You can turn off personal recommendations, turn off permissions in the system settings, withdraw consent, or contact us as described in Part 12. Ad measurement can be turned off at the bottom of the website pages or in the app settings; see item (11) of Part 2.
- Withdrawing consent: you can withdraw your consent to this policy in the apps, or change the scope of your authorization by deleting your account, signing out and using the Service as a guest, or turning off permissions in the system settings. After you withdraw consent we stop processing the corresponding personal information (for example we no longer create a reader identifier for you when you are not signed in; see item (6) of Part 2), and you may not be able to use features that depend on it. In the Yutou Novels apps, chapters of works free with ads after the preview chapters can only be read once you agree to this policy; see item (2) of Part 4. After you withdraw consent, Yutou Novels for iOS stops using the guest wallet; its coins and purchased content are kept, and you can use them again once you agree to this policy again, or delete it on the coins page at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing already done with your consent before the withdrawal.
- Turning off personal recommendations and removing interest tags: see item (7) of Part 2.
- Account deletion: see Part 9.
- Explanation and portability: you have the right to ask us to explain the processing rules described in this policy; where the conditions set by the national cyberspace authority are met, you can ask us to transfer your personal information to a personal information handler you designate.
You can exercise these rights as described in Part 12. To keep your account secure we may need to verify your identity first. We reply within 15 working days after receiving your request and verifying your identity, and in principle do not charge for reasonable requests; where laws or administrative regulations provide otherwise, or a request involves national security, public security, criminal investigation or other statutory cases, we may be unable to respond and will tell you why. After your death, your close relatives may, for their own lawful and legitimate interests, exercise rights such as access, copy, correction and deletion over your relevant personal information, unless you arranged otherwise during your lifetime.
9. Account deletion
- You can request account deletion on the account page of Yutou Novels, Yutou Writer or the websites by entering your current password. If you cannot delete your account in the app (for example because you forgot your password), contact us and we will help after verifying your identity.
- Once you submit the request, your account is signed out on all devices and a 15-day cooling-off period begins. Signing in with the account during the cooling-off period cancels the request.
- Within 3 working days after the cooling-off period ends, we permanently delete your account and personal information, which cannot be recovered, including account information, reading and usage records, ratings, update requests, likes, block records, follow records (the users you follow and the users who follow you), stickers, in-app messages, leave days and bonus points of author benefits, consent records, coin balance and records, membership time, purchase and entitlement records, paid chapter subscription records, short drama unlocks and watch records, cheering records and fan points, and the verification code, rate-limit and concurrency records related to your phone number or email; statistics linked to your account (including ad revenue statistics) are deleted or anonymized. The payee information you submitted in Yutou Writer is deleted at the same time; where we have already paid you, it is kept apart as described below, and the payee information used for a payment still being made is kept until that payment is completed. The same phone number or email can then register again, but the old account's data cannot be recovered.
- Works: signed works are kept and continue to be shown under your pen name, as agreed in the signing contract. Unsigned works are taken down; their text, chapters, drafts, writing materials such as outlines, characters and settings, manuscripts, images, covers, translations and similar content are deleted, the listening audio generated from them stops being provided and is no longer linked to the work, and only the minimal work record needed so that other people's libraries and similar places don't break is kept; internal submissions and signing applications (including manuscript snapshots) are deleted at the same time, and signing invitations not yet confirmed lapse. The promotional materials you submitted stop being placed and are deleted.
- Comments, posts and moments: their content (including its pictures and stickers) is deleted (except content hidden by the platform for violations, see Part 6); for comments and posts, and for moments other users have replied to, the position shows "Removed because the author deleted their account", the author shows as "Deleted user", and other users' replies are kept. Pictures other users have already added to their stickers are not affected (see item (3) of Part 2); an "@nickname" mentioning you in other users' content is text they wrote and is kept, but it no longer opens your profile.
- Messages and book groups: the content of the messages you sent is deleted (except messages hidden by the platform for violations, see Part 6) and the other person sees "This message was deleted with the user's account"; your membership of conversations, your requests to join and your message settings are deleted too; book groups you created are dissolved.
- Unused coins and remaining membership time are forfeited when your account is deleted.
- Royalties and rewards already settled but not yet paid to you (including your withdrawable balance) are not forfeited when your account is deleted; you can contact us as described in Part 12 and receive them after we verify your identity.
- If you turned on ad placement, the refundable balance of your advertiser account is not forfeited when your account is deleted: when you request deletion, your campaigns stop, and we create a refund request for the refundable balance and contact you to refund it under the Yutou Ad Network Advertiser Service Agreement; the information needed for the refund is kept until it is made.
- If you turned on publisher access, your revenue share is not forfeited when your account is deleted: when you request deletion, your apps stop showing Yutou Ad Network ads, and revenue arising before the deletion is settled monthly as usual; after the cooling-off period, when the account has been deleted, we contact you to pay any revenue not yet paid under the Yutou Ad Network Publisher Agreement; the information needed for the payment is kept until it is made.
- If you subscribed to membership through an app store, deleting your account does not cancel the subscription automatically; please cancel it in the app store yourself.
- Logs that laws and regulations require us to keep, report and governance records (including the original text of content hidden by the platform), signed contracts and signing invitation records (for contracts signed with an electronic signature, including the identity information and identity document photos used to sign), settlement and payment records of royalties and author benefits, payee and tax information where we have already paid you, verification records of payee information, transaction records, submission, review and consent records of promotional materials, advertisers' advertising files and the top-up, charge and refund records of advertiser accounts, details of impressions, clicks and views of house ads, publishers' qualification and app review records and their monthly settlement, payout, payment and tax records, and emails between you and customer service are kept apart for the periods in Part 6, deleted when those periods end, and not used for other purposes in the meantime. To keep works, comments and these records valid, we keep an account number record without phone number, email or nickname (including the registration time, the app used to register and the suspension status). Information on the server outside mainland China described in Part 5 is handled as described there, and you can ask us to delete it when you request account deletion.
- Database backups made before deletion may still contain your information; we use them only for disaster recovery, never to restore deleted accounts. Deleting your account does not delete the local data on your device or in your browser; you can delete it yourself as described in Part 3.
10. Minors
- If you are under 18, please read this policy and use the Service with the company and guidance of your guardian; buying Yutou membership, Yutou coins or paid content requires your guardian's consent.
- If you are under 14, you may register an account or provide personal information to us only with your guardian's consent.
- We do not currently actively collect your age. If we find we have processed the personal information of a child under 14 without a guardian's consent, we will delete it as soon as possible. Guardians can contact us as described in Part 12 to access, correct or delete the personal information of a child in their care. If we later offer a minor mode, or laws and regulations require age verification, we will process the age range or date of birth you provide, used only to provide content suitable for you and to limit usage time and spending.
11. Updates to this policy
We may update this policy as our business or laws and regulations change. Every update raises the version number and states the effective date; we publish the new version in the apps and on the websites and tell you in the apps what has changed. You can ask for earlier versions of this policy as described in Part 12.
For the following significant changes, we will notify you prominently, such as with a dialog, and obtain your consent again before the change takes effect:
- the purpose of processing personal information changes, or a processing purpose not described in this policy is added;
- the method of processing personal information changes significantly, for example information kept only on your device starts being sent to us, your personal information is used for personalized commercial marketing or for automated decisions with a significant effect on your rights and interests, or information that was not public is made public;
- a kind of personal information not described in this policy is added, processing of sensitive personal information not described in this policy begins, or the purpose or recipient of sensitive personal information changes;
- a recipient that processes your personal information for its own purposes is added, including third-party SDK providers and other personal information handlers, or a recipient outside mainland China or a new case of providing personal information abroad is added;
- the operator of the Service changes and the new operator changes the original purpose or method of processing.
"Kinds of personal information" in this policy means the categories of information listed in the items of Part 2.
Where such a change concerns only a feature you can choose whether to use, or only some users (for example a new sign-in method, or a feature that needs additional authorization), we will tell you about the change prominently in a dialog or on a page and obtain your consent before you first use that feature; if you do not use that feature, the existing processing stays the same and you do not need to agree to this policy again. Appendix: Third-party SDKs and partners
This list is updated under the rules in item (2) of Part 4 and in Part 11; every update raises the version number of this policy, and we tell you in the app.
- Mobile advertising SDK: provided by a company in the United States. The names and contact details of the SDK and its provider are listed on the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page under "Me" in Yutou Novels, which you can also view before you agree to this policy, and you can also ask us for them as described in Part 12. Integrated in the Yutou Novels apps (including the iOS app) and started at the moments described in item (2) of Part 4. Information collected: device identifiers (the advertising ID provided by the system or, where it is not available, an app- or developer-scoped device ID), IP address and the approximate location inferred from it, device model and OS version, app information (package name and version), ad impressions and clicks (including whether a rewarded video was watched to the end, and the one-time random token we give it to confirm a rewarded-video reward such as unlocking a short drama episode or cheering for a work), and diagnostic information (crash logs and performance data). Purposes: showing ads, measuring ad performance, preventing fraud, confirming rewarded-video rewards such as unlocking short drama episodes and cheering for works (its provider's servers tell us after you finish watching), showing personalized ads once you allow tracking (iOS only), and telling Yutou Novels the estimated revenue of each impression. Permissions used: access the network, read network status and get the advertising ID, and the system ad services' permissions for the ad ID, ad attribution and ad topics, all granted by the system at installation; on iOS, it reads the advertising identifier once you allow tracking in the system prompt (see item (8) of Part 2). Collected by the SDK on your device and sent directly to the provider's servers abroad.
- User messaging platform SDK: provided together with the mobile advertising SDK, by the same provider. It runs when the mobile advertising SDK starts; in the Yutou Novels iOS app, it also runs right after you agree to this policy, before permission to track is requested. It is used to determine your region and show ad privacy options in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some other regions. Information collected: IP address and the approximate location inferred from it, basic device and app information (device model, OS version, package name and version), performance data, and the choices you make in it. Processed in the same way as by the mobile advertising SDK.
- Ad measurement SDK: provided by a company in the United States. The names and contact details of the ad measurement SDK and its provider, and how to exercise your rights against the provider, are listed on the consent page and on the "Third-party SDKs and ads" page under "Me" in Yutou Novels, and you can also ask us for them as described in Part 12. Currently integrated only in the Yutou Novels iOS app, and collects and sends information only after you give separate consent to ad measurement (see item (11) of Part 2 and item (2) of Part 4). Information collected: an app instance identifier it generates; device identifiers (an app- or developer-scoped device ID and, once you allow tracking in the system prompt, the device's advertising identifier); basic device and app information (for example device model, OS version, language and app version); IP address and the approximate location inferred from it; install source information; conversion events (for example the first open after installing, registration and purchases, with their times and amounts) and how the app is used (for example how often and how long it is opened and which feature pages are used). It does not include your phone number, email, nickname, account number or what you read. Purposes: measuring the app installs and usage brought by our promotion on third-party ad platforms and checking what it costs, and, under its privacy policy, improving its services. Permissions used: access the network; on iOS, it reads the advertising identifier once you allow tracking in the system prompt (see item (8) of Part 2). Collected by the SDK on your device and sent directly to the provider's servers abroad.
